Drunken brawls at Haryana Bhavan
Chandigarh: Drunken brawls involving staff of the public relations department posted at Haryana Bhavan, New Delhi, have sent the authorities in a tizzy. The situation has come to such a pass that the Office of the Joint Director, Information, Public Relations and Languages Department, on October 24 had to come out with an office order (warning) threatening registration of an FIR if such as behaviour, ‘unbecoming’ of a government servant, was noticed again. The trigger point for the issue of the office order was the October 17 incident when the staffers consumed liquor in the ‘press clipping room’, exhibited abusive behaviour, indulged in hooliganism and virtually came to blows. Earlier too, PR staff allegedly picked up fight with other department staff on the the premises of Haryana Bhavan, mentioned the order asking the staffer to mend their ways.
PM visit has BJP, govt on toes
Kurukshetra: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to visit Kurukshetra on November 25 to observe the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Guru Teg Bahadur and participate in the International Gita Mahotsav, the state BJP unit has intensified its preparations to organise the event at a grand scale. Sources said the BJP aimed to hold the event with the presence of 50,000 people. Meanwhile the government also aimed to get several developmental projects inaugurated and get the foundation stones laid for which the departments concerned have been told to complete the pending works soon.
Decorative lights project under lens
Panipat: The dream project of City MLA Pramod Vij to beautify roads by installing decorative lights is in limelight these days, following the reports on the lights installed on Assandh road. The contractor had installed 68 decorative lights on Assandh road flyover just a year ago at a cost of Rs 35 lakh. But, these lights were under lens for alleged corruption since its installation. Now, the reports have proven that these are substandard. The contractor, who had installed the lights, also reportedly pressured Municipal Corporation (MC) officials for payment. The issue has become the centre of discussion on social media groups. Residents said the development didn't come as a surprise "scams have become a routine in the MC".
Yamunanagar SP wins heart
Yamunanagar: People celebrated Diwali at their homes with their near and dear ones. But, Superintendent of Police, Yamunanagar, Kamaldeep Goyal celebrated the festival in a different way. He visited police checkposts and met personnel on duty. He offered them sweets, extended Diwali wishes and praised their dedication, saying while people were celebrating the festival at home, police personnel stood guard and ensured everyone's safety. Boosting their morale, the SP made them realize that they were not alone. He also visited Bal Kunj in Chhachhrauli and Old Age Home, Jagadhri, to celebrate Diwali with children and elderly persons. A police officer said through this work, the SP had proved that apart from being a good officer, he was also a good human being.
