Haryana Diary: BJP MLA trains gun at own govt
Kaithal: BJP MLA from Pundri Satpal Jamba raised questions about his government’s performance during a programme organised to mark Good Governance Day in the presence of Speaker Harvinder Kalyan last week. Though the event was aimed at showcasing the government’s achievements, the MLA highlighted flaws in the system. He even continued to criticise the system despite being interrupted by Kalyan. Jamba alleged that drugs were being openly sold even after he informed the police. He even pointed out the shortage of teachers in government schools. The MLA also claimed to have a list of corrupt officials, adding that his intention was not to criticise but to draw attention to the problems.
Leaders lobbying for wives
Faridabad: With the elections to the municipal corporations and other civic bodies round the corner, the battle for getting the coveted post of mayor has begun. Though the announcement of reservation of the post of city mayor for woman (general) has left several men aspirants disappointed, it has also given an opportunity to many to field their wives (spouse) for the post and keep their influence intact. Such aspirants include a senior leader who lost the recent Assembly poll. He expects to field his wife for the mayor’s post, whose election is scheduled to be held directly instead of nomination from the elected members of the civic body. A former woman minister who was denied the party ticket this time is among as many as 20 aspirants for the post.
CM Nayab Saini at witty best
Kurukshetra: CM Nayab Singh Saini, who often takes witty jibes at Opposition leaders, didn’t hesitate in pulling the leg of his own party leaders, who unsuccessfully contested from Kurukshetra, for not adapting to the situation during the Assembly poll. Addressing a gathering in Pehowa, the CM, who won from Ladwa, said in a lighter note that he changed his strategy during the election after seeing the narrative created by the Opposition, but DD Sharma, Subhash Kalsana and Subhash Sudha might not have changed their strategy. Ladwa is the only Assembly constituency won by the BJP in Kurukshetra, while Thanesar, Shahabad and Pehowa segments are with the Congress.
No relief to mediaperson
Hisar: The issue of the wet wheat stock in a warehouse in Uklana town, which was exposed by Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Rajesh Nagar on December 27, led to suspension of four officials and registration of an FIR against another employee. However, a similar incident also occurred in September 2019 when local mediapersons exposed the wet stock in the same warehouse. But instead of acting against officials concerned, the department got an FIR of trespassing lodged against scribe Anoop Kundu. Though then minister Karan Dev Kamboj appreciated the media’s role in exposing the incident of wet stock, the government did not give any relief to Kundu.
MC poll excitement sky high
Panipat: Preparations for the civic body elections are in full swing. After the Panipat mayoral seat was declared open by the state government, BJP and Congress leaders began lobbying to get the party ticket. The morale of BJP leaders is sky high due to recent Loka Sabha and Assembly wins. Names of some BJP leaders have also gone viral on social media. On the other hand, there is silence in the Congress camp.
