Haryana Diary: Gita Mahotsav ends smoothly; Kurukshetra breathes easy

Ambala: Congress leader and Ambala Municipal Corporation councillor advocate Mithun Verma has challenged the ad hoc body formed for the ward delimitation process for the upcoming corporation elections. Alleging political and social injustice, Verma claimed that “all the members are directly or indirectly associated with the BJP” and that the panel lacks representation from the backward classes and the Opposition. Calling the committee “politically biased”, he said the exclusion violated norms. Verma has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, where the matter is scheduled to be heard on December 8.

Karnal: Deepening discord has surfaced within the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC), constituted after it’s first-ever elections in January this year. Tensions rose after Bhupinder Singh Laddi, Panthak Dal’s state youth president and son of committee member Bibi Kapoor Kaur, along with two other members, publicly demanded the resignation of HSGMC president Jagdish Singh Jhinda. They have accused Jhinda of corruption, misuse of authority, breach of statutory norms and promoting VIP culture within the body. Jhinda, however, has denied the allegations. The HSGMC was expected to ensure transparent and orderly management of gurdwaras in Haryana, but instead has become mired in internal disputes and power struggles, pitting the president against several committee members.
