Rohtak: Former CM Bhupinder Hooda recently drew a witty distinction between his surname ‘Hooda’ and HUDA (now-renamed HSVP). Hooda responded to a media query about the state government’s apparent discomfort with the name ‘HUDA’, which, the media felt, was too closely associated with him. Clarifying the difference, Hooda quickly remarked, “HUDA stood for Haryana Urban Development Authority. But I am Hooda, which stands for Haryana Overall Development Authority.” His humorous reply later became the talk of the town.

In father’s footsteps

Yamunanagar: Most people go for a morning walk near their houses. But the morning walk of Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana is different. He has been going — for years — to the villages falling under his Assembly constituency, Radaur, to take a morning walk. During the walk, he listens to the problems of the people of the village. Now, his son Nepal Singh Rana has started following in the footsteps of his father. While going on a morning walk in the villages of the Assembly constituency of his father, he also solves the problems of the people. This step of the minister’s son is attracting the attention of the people.

Panipat: Although issuance of a weapon licence is always a big deal everywhere, but in Panipat district, the issue has become a point of discussion in political galleries these days. It is famous in Panipat that Deputy Commissioner Dr Virender Kumar Dahiya is not interested in issuing weapon licences and refuses almost all files of weapon licence. Even the request of a supporter of a BJP leader was refused. But the BJP leader approached the Haryana CM and finally, got a weapon licence for one of his supporters.

Too many speed breakers

Hisar: The death of a youth after his bike skidded on a speed breaker in Arya Nagar village of the district has sparked a debate over the construction of speed breakers. Villagers informed that the village is the 'sasural' (in-laws' village) of Public Works Department Minister Ranbir Gangwa and hence, 10 speed breakers have been constructed recently on a stretch. These are becoming the cause of road accidents. Surprisingly, even the parameters of the speed breakers, including their height and width, are also being questioned by residents. Some of those are devoid of white strips.
