Rohtak: Aspirants are lobbying to get the BJP ticket for the Rohtak Assembly constituency. Former state minister Manish Grover, who lost the last election to Bharat Bhushan Batra of the Congress, is considered the frontrunner for the ticket due to his proximity to Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar. However, former Rohtak Mayor Manmohan Goel has triggered a debate by stating that he may also contest the election from Rohtak if the party decides to field him. Goel is a prominent industrialist and his father, Seth Kishandas, was also a minister in the Haryana Government. He is also related to industrialist-turned-politician OP Jindal.

‘Minting money’

Kurukshetra: Congress leader Randeep Surjewala has accused BJP MLAs of running factories making paver blocks, so that their products could be used in construction of roads. Recently, while addressing a gathering in Kurukshetra, the Congress leader said block tiles (paver blocks) were used to construct roads even in HUDA sectors. The reason behind the use of this construction technique was that the MLAs ran paver blocks factories and were minting money, he remarked.

Mobilising masses

Karnal: Hindu outfits, including the RSS, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal, are putting in every effort to make the upcoming consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla’s idol in Ayodhya on January 22, a grand success. They are mobilising masses for the occasion and are reaching out to residents in both urban and rural areas. This is aimed at making the ceremony historic and also derive political mileage from the event, say the cynics.

Proportional representation

Hisar: As the Lok Sabha polls and Haryana Assembly elections are scheduled later this year, social outfits have started staking claims of representation in ticket allocation. The backward community under the banner of Pichra Varg Jagriti Manch at a meeting in Narnaund on Sunday claimed that as per the population ratio, all political parties should give 30 tickets in the Assembly polls to candidates from the BC-A community, and three for the Lok Sabha elections. Similarly, they demanded proportional representation to the BC-B category candidates. The manch president, Surender Verma, said they had been raising their voice for proportional representation in political parties. Earlier, the Vaish community too had demanded tickets as per the proportion of its population at a Vaish congregation in Agroha in Hisar district.

Blame game over Swachh ranking

Yamunanagar: The low ranking given to the Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri, in the Swachh Survekshan 2023 has disappointed many. Blaming the MC authorities for not making serious efforts to make the twin cities clean in the past five years, they have held MC officials and workers responsible for the low ranking. Yamunanagar-Jagadhri were ranked 170 in 2022, slipping down to 221 in 2023.

Political rivalry comes to fore

Faridabad: The recent administering of oath to the newly nominated president of the district unit of the ruling BJP has exposed the rivalry between two prominent leaders of the party. The district unit of the party had to withdraw the press release of the oath ceremony function held on the first day as a senior party leader was not present and the stage had the photo of another leader who was his old political rival, it is learnt. The party had to hold the function again the next day, and this time it was the leader who was on stage the first day who was absent! The ruling party is not above internal wrangling, it is evident.
