Haryana Diary: New tactics to lure voters

Faridabad: Exhibiting next-level confidence, some candidates have started to claim that they would get a Cabinet berth if they win the election or if their party comes to power. At a recent public meeting, a candidate remarked that he would be satisfied with the post of Deputy Chief Minister. As per analysts, such statements are made to lure voters and make them believe the candidate’s claim. Many candidates are also promising government jobs and removal of toll plazas to woo the voters.

Shows of strength galore

Yamunanagar: As the polling date for Haryana Assembly elections is getting closer, the election campaign is gaining momentum in the state. The ruling as well as the Opposition parties are making all-out efforts to show their strength by holding massive and impressive roadshows, public meetings and rallies. Aam Aadmi Party candidate from Jagadhri Assembly constituency Adarsh Pal Gurjar recently organised a massive roadshow, which was attended by AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal. Sitting MLA and BJP candidate from Jagadhri Assembly constituency Kanwar Pal Gujjar also organised a big rally in Jagadhri. Former MLA and Congress candidate Akram Khan also held an impressive rally in Chhachhrauli town.

Farmers’ protests trouble BJP

Ambala: Protests by farmers are turning out to be a major trouble for BJP candidates in rural areas. Small groups of farmers associated with different unions assemble near the venues fixed for public meetings and start raising slogans against the party and its candidate to express their resentment. Ambala Cantonment candidate Anil Vij and Naraingarh candidate Pawan Saini faced such protests from farmers recently. A farm union leader remarked that the farmers would stop the BJP from forming the government as the BJP had stopped farmers from going to Delhi.

Switchovers to Congress

Karnal: As the election date approaches, political switchovers have intensified. Several prominent leaders, including former minister Karandev Kamboj, former CPS Bakhshish Singh Virk, former Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee general secretary Gurvinder Singh Dhamija, JJP district spokesperson Yashkaran Rana and several former councillors from Karnal Municipal Corporation, have switched their loyalties to the Congress. Fearing further defections, BJP leaders are reaching out to the leaders who are likely to join the Congress.
