Faridabad: Though brimming with confidence and hardly having any doubt about coming out victorious in the civic body poll, the ruling BJP leaders and candidates are perhaps conscious of the dissidence angle which can affect the chances of the win of the official candidates, despite poor opposition from other leading political parties. “The ruling party candidates are set to face a tough time as their main opponents are likely to be from the same party who have turned dissidents and may contest as Independents from various wards due to denial of ticket,” says a political activist. Change in the name of two candidates by the ruling party within 24 hours of the announcement of the list points to the tussle inside the party and the growing dissidence in view of a large number of aspirants, it is claimed.

BJP leaves Rohtak residents surprised

Rohtak: The announcement of the BJP candidate for the mayoral post has come as a bolt from the blue for local residents. It has also been a setback to several local saffron leaders who had previously sought the party ticket from the Kalanaur (reserve) Assembly seat and were now vying for the mayoral post. The race for the ticket included a former MLA, MC ex-chairpersons and even a retired HCS officer. However, the BJP has placed its trust in Ram Avtar Valmiki, who has unsuccessfully contested three consecutive Assembly elections from Kalanaur.

Resentment prevails among aspirants

Karnal: Resentment prevails among some ticket aspirants who were in the race for councillors’ ticket for the Karnal Municipal Corporation elections. A few of them have expressed frustration on social media. However, BJP’s district president Brij Gupta and Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand dismissed claims of discontent, saying that no one is annoyed and that any concerns would be resolved. They emphasised party unity and assured that all leaders and workers would work together to ensure BJP’s victory in the municipal elections.
