Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana has said Haryana has become the first state in the country to procure 24 crops at the minimum support price (MSP) determined by the Central Government.

The minister was here to attend a function to mark Kisan Diwas at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU), Hisar, today.

Extending his greetings to the farming community, Minister Rana expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for his role in issuing the notification that guarantees MSP procurement for all 24 crops in the state. He described it as a transformative step for the state’s farmers.

Cow dung protects against nuclear radiataions

In a remark which could stir controversy, Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana has claimed that cow dung can protect against nuclear radiation and diseases.

He suggested that plastering mud houses with cow dung offers protection from nuclear radiation, claiming that such knowledge existed only in India

“The state government’s decision reflects its commitment to ensuring economic stability and fair prices for farmer,” he said adding that the list of procured crops to include ragi, soybean, nigerseed, safflower, barley, maize, jowar, jute, copra, and summer moong, alongside existing crops such as paddy, bajra, wheat, mustard and sugarcane, marks a significant milestone. The initiative is aimed at protecting farmers from a volatile market and fostering confidence in agricultural activities.
