Haryana IPS officer's death: Family refuses to meet BJP ministers, denies police access to laptop
Y Puran Kumar's IAS wife Amneet P Kumar firm on demand for Haryana DGP Kapur's arrest before allowing postmortem or last rites
The deadlock over the postmortem and final rites of Haryana Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Y Puran Kumar deepened on Monday, as the family stood firm on its demand for arrests of senior officers named in the FIR.
The late officer’s widow, senior IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, refused to meet any BJP ministers and declined to hand over his laptop to the Chandigarh Police for investigation.

Kumar, a senior IPS officer, was found dead at his Sector 11 residence in Chandigarh on October 7. His body remains at the Advanced Autopsy Centre of PGIMER, where it was shifted from GMSH-16 on Saturday, as tensions continue to escalate.
During a tense interaction at her residence, a visibly anguished Amneet Kumar, flanked by her brother and Punjab AAP MLA Amit Rattan Kotfatta, lashed out at visiting political leaders.
“What have you done so far… what do you want to say… we don’t want anything from you… what have you done to my late husband… if the government wants, it may take his body as well,” she said.
The family has reiterated its decision not to permit postmortem or cremation until their core demand—the arrest of Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur, suspended Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya, and others named in the FIR—is met.
The Chandigarh Police had sought access to the officer’s laptop for retrieving digital evidence and verifying the timeline of the “final note” allegedly drafted and emailed by Kumar. The note, which forms the basis of the FIR registered on October 9 at Sector 11 police station, contains serious allegations against senior Haryana officials.
However, the family has refused to surrender the laptop, citing mistrust in handling of the case.

Police officers involved in the investigation have raised concerns that the continued delay in the postmortem could compromise forensic evidence.
“Crucial indicators like gunpowder residues and ballistic markings could deteriorate, potentially weakening the case,” said an officer.
Meanwhile, a steady stream of political leaders continued to visit the bereaved family to offer condolences. Among those who called on them on Monday were Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale, Punjab Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, and former Union minister Pawan Kumar Bansal.
