The National Commission for Women (NCW) has launched Haryana’s first pre-marital counselling centre, ‘Tere Mere Sapne’, on the eve of International Women’s Day in Gurugram. The centre, located at the Civil Hospital in Sector-10, was inaugurated on Saturday by Mamta Kumari, Member of NCW, in the presence of Renu Bhatia, Chairperson of the Haryana State Women Commission.

Addressing the gathering after the inauguration, Mamta Kumari emphasised the need for such centres in modern society, where traditional values in married life are gradually eroding. “In today’s modern lifestyle, the rich and strong tradition of our married life is losing values and customs and getting affected in some way or the other,” she said.

She further added that “In such a situation, the National Commission for Women’s ‘Tere Mere Sapne’ is a unique and meaningful effort to maintain our beautiful bonding of family structure while moving forward on the tradition of building a nation from family to society and from society to nation.”

Highlighting the initiative, she revealed that the NCW has set up pre-marital counselling centres at 21 locations across nine states as part of the International Women’s Day celebrations. She explained that these centres aim to prepare young couples for married life by fostering mutual understanding and emotional intimacy before marriage.

Renu Bhatia, Chairperson of the Haryana State Women Commission, underlined the importance of such counselling in strengthening marital relationships. “In today’s society, newly married couples often lack coordination, which directly impacts children. These counselling centres will play an important role in dealing with such situations,” she stated.

She further elaborated on the counselling process, explaining that experts at the centres will guide couples on understanding marriage, family roles, emotional attachment and overcoming challenges to build a successful married life.

“Counselling will be given by experts in these centres. The counsellors will motivate and teach the couples to understand the relationship of marriage, the role of the family, emotional attachment, ways to deal with the challenges and make a successful married life,” she added.
