Governor Bandaru Dattatreya hailed the state’s progress and achievements during the state-level celebrations of the 76th Republic Day held at Sector-12 grounds in Faridabad on Sunday. The Governor unfurled the National Flag, inspected the March-past, and took the salute of the parade before addressing the gathering.
Highlighting Haryana’s leadership in inclusive development, Dattatreya commended the efforts of both the state and Union governments in ensuring fast-track progress across various sectors. “Haryana has taken significant measures to maintain the momentum of development. The ex gratia for martyr soldiers has been increased from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore and their families are being prioritised with 10% reservation in direct recruitment. So far, government jobs have been provided to the kin of 416 martyrs,” he said.
The Governor praised the initiatives aimed at honouring freedom fighters, their families and the dependents of martyrs. “This policy reflects the respect and gratitude towards those who sacrificed their lives for the nation,” he added.
Dattatreya emphasised Haryana’s commitment to the principle of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’, stating that inclusive development has propelled the state to new heights. “Empowering women has been a hallmark of governance. Additionally, Haryana has made remarkable progress in sports, education and agriculture. The state has become a frontrunner by offering MSP for 24 crops and promptly addressing losses caused by the delayed sowing in the kharif season. A bonus of Rs 977 crore was distributed to affected farmers,” he said.
Reflecting on the significance of Republic Day, the Governor described it as a symbol of the country’s strength and heritage. “The nation owes a debt of gratitude to the framers of the Constitution for laying a strong foundation for a resilient India. Despite challenges, the journey of our Republic has been historic and has emerged stronger due to our unity in diversity,” he said. Dattatreya also highlighted the unparalleled contribution of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, calling his role in shaping the Constitution supreme.
Drawing a parallel between the Republic Day celebrations and the Mahakumbh Mela being held at Prayagraj Sangam, the Governor said, “Both symbolise the strength and heritage of India.”
Earlier in the day, Dattatreya paid tributes to martyrs at the Shaheed Smarak in Town Park. He also paid homage to poet Surdas and Shaheed Raja Nahar Singh, both of whom hailed from the region.
Chief Secretary Vivek Joshi and DGP Shatrujeet Kapur welcomed the Governor at the event, which also featured cultural programmes and tableaux showcasing Haryana’s achievements. Several officials and individuals were honoured for their contributions, adding to the celebratory spirit of the occasion.
