Haryana offers reward to tackle stubble-burning

The Haryana Government has come out with a scheme to reward panchayats falling in the “red zone” for taking steps to prevent stubble burning in their respective villages.

Chief Secretary Vijai Vardhan said the efforts would be evaluated and the top three panchayats would be given Rs 10 lakh, Rs 5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh, respectively.

Addressing a virtual meet with deputy commissioners, Vardhan said the officers must ensure proper management of crop residue in compliance with the Supreme Court order.

He said sarpanches should hold a meeting of the respective gram sabhas and pass a resolution against stubble burning. He also directed the DCs to ensure the availability of crop residue management machines to small and marginal farmers.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
