The Haryana Police has emerged as the national leader in preventing cyber fraud in 2024, saving approximately Rs 268.40 crore from cybercriminals, a significant increase compared to Rs 76.85 crore in 2023. This marks a three-fold rise from 2023 and a five-fold increase compared to 2022, said Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur.
“Haryana Police is taking strict action against cybercriminals and ensuring they face the law,” said Kapur. He highlighted that the number of cybercrime cases registered rose significantly over the years: 2,165 cases in 2022, 2,747 cases in 2023 and 5,511 cases in 2024. Arrests also saw a sharp rise, with 1,078 cybercriminals arrested in 2022, 1,909 in 2023 and 5,156 in 2024.
“Out of the total arrests in 2024, 70% (3,555 criminals) were from other states. On average, 14 cybercriminals were arrested daily in 2024,” Kapur added.
He also emphasised efforts to ensure victims receive their blocked funds promptly. In 2023, Rs 33 crore was refunded to victims, while in 2024, this amount increased to Rs 95.45 crore by November, nearly tripling the previous year’s figure.
“All 29 cyber police stations in the state have been directed to facilitate refunds through Lok Adalats to avoid court delays. On Haryana Police’s request, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered all District and Session Courts to abolish the requirement of filing an FIR for refunds, expediting the process,” Kapur said.
