Haryana Police unite to save infant’s life, raise Rs 3.3 crore

Days after ‘The Tribune’ highlighted the case of 8.5-month-old Yuvansh, diagnosed with a rare and life-threatening genetic disorder, the Haryana Police have come together in an extraordinary show of unity and compassion to support one of its own — Constable Rajesh Kumar of the Fatehabad Cyber Cell.

Yuvansh has been diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a severe genetic condition that causes progressive muscle weakness and can be fatal without early intervention. The only available treatment is a one-time injection of Zolgensma, one of the most expensive medicines in the world, priced at Rs 14 crore.

In a heart-warming gesture, the Fatehabad Police collected Rs 24.60 lakh through voluntary one-day salary donation from every officer and staff member. The cheque was handed over to Constable Rajesh by SP Siddhant Jain, on Tuesday.

“We are not just a force; we are a family. When any one of us is in pain, we must come together. This is not just about money — it is about standing by each other during the toughest times,” said SP Jain, who led the initiative and inspired other districts to contribute.

The response has been overwhelming. Since ‘The Tribune’ first reported the story on June 22, when donations stood at only Rs 45 lakh, support has surged. Within just over two weeks, the total collection has touched Rs 3.32 crore.

Constable Rajesh expressed gratitude to the entire police fraternity and said: “I am overwhelmed. The kind of support I have received has restored my faith in humanity. I’m truly hopeful that we will raise the full amount needed to save my son’s life.”

The Hisar Range alone has contributed Rs 1.34 crore, followed by Rs 55 lakh from Rohtak Range, and Rs 44 lakh from Panipat and Kaithal districts. Additional support has poured in from Mahendragarh, Panchkula, Sonepat, Jhajjar, the IRB Haryana and the Commando Naval Unit, among others.

State-level agencies such as the Police Commissionerates, CID and Vigilance Department have also joined the effort.

The campaign continues as the family works towards raising the remaining funds needed for Yuvansh’s treatment — a fight not just for survival but for hope and togetherness.
