AAP releases first list of 20 candidates for Haryana poll
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has released its first list of 20 candidates for the upcoming elections, signalling the end of alliance talks with the Congress.
The list includes senior leaders such as Anurag Dhanda, who will contest from Kalayat in Kaithal district, and Kuldeep Gadrana, who will face off against Digvijay Chautala of the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) in Dabwali, Congress’ Amit Sihag and the Indian National Lok Dal’s Aditya Devi Lal. AAP’s largest lead was from the Kalayat assembly segment in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, a margin of 14,437 votes.
AAP has also fielded candidates in constituencies where the Congress has sitting MLAs, including Naraingarh, Assandh, Samalkha, Rohtak, Bahadurgarh, Badli, Beri, Mahendragarh and Dabwali. The party has not yet made announcements for Pehowa, Shahbad (SC), and Guhla (SC), where it had registered a lead in the Lok Sabha polls.
In Uchana Kalan, Pawan Fauji has been fielded against JJP’s Dushyant Chautala and the Congress’ Brijendra Singh. From Sohna and Ballabhgarh, Dharmender Khatana and Ravinder Faujdar have been preferred, respectively.
AAP state president Dr Sushil Gupta stated that the party had waited patiently for an alliance but ultimately decided to contest the elections alone, citing the strength of its organisation in every assembly constituency. He emphasised that AAP remains a partner of the INDIA bloc at the national level. The second list of candidates is expected to be released soon, he added.
