Haryana seeks special package to achieve ‘Water Safe State’ goal
Haryana Public Health Engineering Minister Ranbir Gangwa has reiterated the state’s commitment to becoming a ‘Water Safe State’ before 2047, with ongoing expansions in Jal Jeevan Mission, AMRUT Yojana and canal-based drinking water projects.
Speaking at the ‘Water Safe Nation’ conference in Udaipur, Gangwa urged the Centre to provide a special package to strengthen Haryana’s water security initiatives. Irrigation, Women and Child Development Minister Shruti Choudhry was also present at the event.
Highlighting Haryana’s water conservation efforts, Gangwa said, “The government is continuously taking steps to counter excessive groundwater exploitation.” He noted that the state had permanently provided drinking water to 216 villages through the Ranney Well project from the Yamuna, calling it a “game changer.”
The minister revealed that Haryana operates 177 sewage treatment plants with a combined capacity of 2,137 MLD, currently generating 1,487.12 MLD of treated wastewater. The government aims to increase this to over 1,000 MLD by December 2025 and achieve 100% wastewater reuse by December 2028.
