Haryana sees three-fold rise in arrest of cyberfrauds in '24; over 5K nabbed

Cybercrime to the tune of Rs 980 cr reported last year; ₹268 crore saved through preventive measures

There is close to three-fold rise in number of arrests for cybercrime in Haryana. In 2023, 1,900 arrests were made which jumped to 5,156 in 2024.

Also, cyber frauds to the tune of Rs 602 crore were reported in 2023, while the figure rose to Rs 980 crore in 2024. However, preventive efforts also improved, with around Rs 76 crore saved in 2023 and ₹268 crore saved in 2024.

The figures were revealed during a conference attended by DSPs, ASPs, cyber police station in-charges, and cyber investigation officers from across the state. The event focused on technical aspects and best practices for controlling cybercrime, with detailed discussions on these topics. Officers also clarified their doubts regarding challenges related to cybercrime.

Sharing his thoughts during the conference, DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor highlighted the commendable work done in Haryana to tackle cybercrime. As a result, Union Home Minister Amit Shah awarded the Best-1930 Cyber Team Award in September 2024 to Haryana, he pointed out.

Currently, 15 nodal officers from 10 banks are working with the Haryana Police. From the next week, SBI's nodal officers will also join the team. These bank officers work with the police 24/7 to curb cybercrimes. Kapur stressed the importance of working under an effective unified action plan to achieve better outcomes in combating cybercrime.

SP, Cybercrime, Amit Dahiya elaborated on the methods used by cybercriminals for fraud and technical aspects of investigations. He provided insights into the I4C Coordination Portal, M-Kavach mobile app, antivirus solutions and other significant aspects. He also shared details about RBI guidelines and social engineering crimes. Additionally, topics such as digital arrests, investment frauds, cryptocurrency frauds, international fraud calls, coordination portals and collaboration with bank nodal officers were discussed in depth.
