Farmers in the district distanced themselves from the ‘rail roko’ protest announced by their counterparts in Punjab, ensuring no disruption on railway tracks in the area. The day passed peacefully, with no incidents reported.

The protest call has been given by the farmer unions who have been protesting at the Shambhu and Khanori borders. It has minimal impact locally. However, the train traffic across the region was affected due to disruptions caused by protests in Punjab.

Passengers faced significant inconvenience as the Hoshiarpur Express was cancelled. Additionally, several trains, including Amrapali Express, Shaan-e-Punjab, Malwa Express, Jan Shatabdi, Jammu Mail, and Jammu Tawi, were delayed by several hours.

Passengers expressed frustration over the train cancellation and delays.

Local farmers' organisations clarified their position on the call for protests. “We have not supported the call given by the Punjab farmers for the ‘rail roko,’” said Rattan Mann, president of BKU (Mann).

Bahadur Singh Mehla, spokesperson for BKU (Sir Chhotu Ram), said while they support the cause of Punjab farmers of a guarantee law of MSP, they would back them only after they enter Haryana.

However, the district administration remained on high alert throughout the day, ensuring peace and smooth functioning of railway services within the district.
