Veteran BJP leader and former Haryana Health Minister Kamla Verma (93) died at a private hospital of Jagadhri in Yamunanagar district on Tuesday evening.

She was undergoing treatment of mucormycosis (black fungus) infection in her lungs post recovery from Covid.

Dr Ish Kalra from the private hospital concerned told mediapersons, “Kamla Verma’s health suddenly deteriorated today evening and she breathed her last at about 7.30 pm.”

Rajan Verma said his mother had tested Covid positive on May 5, but she recovered from the disease.

“My mother was infected with black fungus and she was admitted at a private hospital of Jagadhri on May 30,” said Rajan Verma.

Kamla Verma was a senior BJP leader. She was first elected an MLA from Yamunanagar in 1977. She became cabinet minister in Haryana in 1977, 1987 and 1996.

She was the first woman president of Haryana state BJP.
