Karnal: The Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) regional research station in the district’s Uchani village has organised a sugarcane and maize kisan mela on its premises. HAU Vice Chancellor Prof KP Singh inaugurated the mela. He congratulated sugarcane farmers for a bumper harvest, taking the country to the top position in the sugarcane production. “The university will produce 25 lakh tissue culture nurseries,” the VC said. He also inaugurated a soil testing laboratory.
‘Badi si asha’ for women’s safety
Karnal: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Karnal, and an NGO launched a campaign ‘Badi si asha’ on girls’ aspirations regarding concern about women’s safety and restrictions on her mobility. Hitesh Garg, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, DLSA, said the aim was to end gender selection, a cause for skewed sex ratio. Para-legal volunteers empanelled on the DLSA were deputed to attend community mobilisation programmes to create awareness about the issue among every section of society. The awareness programmes were organised at Arianpura, Pundri, Garhi Khujar, Devi Pura, Alipur Khalsa, Kohand, Kaimala, Faridpur, Furlak and Kutail villages.
Rs4-lakh help for gangrape victim
Karnal: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Karnal, has given Rs4 lakh in compensation to a seven-year-old gangrape victim. Hitesh Garg, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary DLSA, said an FIR in the case was registered in the women’s police station in Assandh on June 1. Three men, who had allegedly raped her, are in judicial custody. The victim is under treatment as she has been diagnosed with Grade IV perineal injury. “Two surgeries have been performed on her in the PGIMER, Chandigarh,” Garg said. She will require costly medicines, healthy diet and round-the-clock care. The interim compensation was transferred into her bank account.
Seven certified PHCs in Sonepat
Sonepat: The National Quality Assurance (NQA) has certified two more Primary Health Centers (PHCs) — one in Rohat village and the other in Jatwada village, taking the number of certified PHCs in the district to seven. The other certified health facilities are the Civil Hospital in Sonepat, Community Health Centre in Ganaur and PHCs in Murthal, Bega and Dubeta villages. Civil Surgeon Dr BK Razora said a team of the NQA had inspected the Rohat and Jatwars PHCs in September and gave 96 and 92 per cent marks, respectively. The two PHCs will get a cash award of Rs3 lakh each for the welfare of patients.
Students take oath against drugs
Kaithal: Rocky Mittal, Director, ‘EK aur sudhar’ cell of the Haryana Government, said the government was committed to the eradication of drug menace so that the youth could contribute to the state’s development. While addressing students in Government Senior Secondary School and SD Senior Secondary Schools in Guhla and Cheeka, respectively, he administered an oath to students not to take drugs. “The anti-drug campaign should be made a public movement with the cooperation of the youth,” he said.
Farmers urged not to burn stubble
Kaithal: Deputy Commissioner Dr Priyanka Soni has appealed to farmers not to burn paddy stubble and, instead, sell it to factories. “Paddy stubble can be a source of income for farmers, who can fetch Rs150 to Rs250 per quintal of stubble. It will help in saving environment and preserve the land fertility. To sell crop residue, farmers can contact Sansons paper mill yard in-charge Ram Pal,” she said. Farmers can sell paddy crop residue of PR 1121, basmati and other varieties to the mill located at 5 km from Pehowa on the Pehowa-Cheeka road.
Poetic event at Panipat refinery
Panipat: The management of Panipat refinery organised an All-India ‘kavi sammelan’ on the premises of Panipat Refinery and Petrochemical Complex to encourage Hindi as a medium of communication. DGP Manoj Yadava was the chief guest, while SP Sumit Kumar was the special guest. Sanjaya Bhatnagar, executive director, PRPC, inaugurated the programme. Poet Hariom Panwar, Padama Shree awardee Sunil Jogi, melodist Ramesh Sharma, Rohit Sharma, Nandini Srivastva and Vibha Shukla recited their poems.
