HC takes suo motu cognisance of Tribune report on child’s death at 'unregistered; playschool in Sirsa

Seeks government’s response in PIL on lack of safety protocols in such institutions

Taking suo motu cognizance of a news item published in The Tribune, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has initiated a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in connection with the death of a four-year-old child at an alleged unregistered playschool in Sirsa.

The school was allegedly operating without mandatory registration and basic safety measures. A news item in this regard, “Unregistered playschool under fire after 4-year-old boy dies in Sirsa,” was published on July 6.

Chief Justice Sheel Nagu ordered that the matter be registered as a PIL and placed before the appropriate bench. The case, listed as Court on its Own Motion versus State of Haryana through its Chief Secretary and other respondents, came up for hearing and notice was issued.
