Heated debate over job scam leads to Congress walkout in Haryana Assembly

Congress MLAs on Tuesday staged a walkout during the zero hour of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha after claiming they were not being allowed to speak.

At the conclusion of the Question Hour, after BJP MLA Sunil Satpal Sangwan rose to raise his issue in the zero hour, MLA Om Prakash raised the matter of a topper being denied a job during the Congress regime under then Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

Quoting a court’s order, he said the topper's name was covered with fluid, underlining that deserving youth were overlooked.

The Congress MLAs protested, attempting to raise the MBBS scam. However, the Speaker, Havinder Kalyan, disallowed any discussion.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini intervened, stating that it was a serious matter that youth were denied jobs on merit and that the Congress tried to mislead the youth even in this election by urging them to get 50 votes and ensure a job for themselves.

The Congress continued to protest, arguing that they were not being allowed to counter the treasury benches.

They entered the Well of the House and engaged in an argument over being disallowed to speak.

The Speaker asked them to return to their seats, warning that he would name them if they refused.

Later, Congress MLA Raghuvir Kadian was given one minute to present his view.

Commenting on the conduct of the treasury benches, he said that the Speaker needed to bring the House in order.

Kalyan asked him to address the matter, but the opposition and treasury benches began to trade allegations. In the din, as Kalyan attempted to bring order, the Congress decided to stage a walkout after the Speaker refused to allow a speech.
