Heavy vehicles to be diverted to alternative routes in Kurukshetra

From November 20 to December 5, entry to be banned from 8 am to 11 pm in city

In view of the heavy flow of traffic during the ongoing International Gita Mahotsav, the Kurukshetra police have decided to start diverting heavy vehicles to alternative routes from Thursday.

As per the Kurukshetra police, from November 20 to December 5, the entry of heavy vehicles has been banned from 8 am to 11 pm in the city.

A Kurukshetra police spokesperson said a large number of tourists, and devotees arrived in Kurukshetra during the International Gita Mahotsav leading to a heavy flow of traffic in the city area. To ensure a smooth flow of traffic, a traffic advisory has been issued and it will remain in place till December 5.

As per the traffic advisory issued for the heavy vehicles, the traffic coming from Pehowa, Patiala, and those destined to reach Saharanpur, Haridwar, Uttarakhand and Yamunanagar can proceed to their destination via the Pehowa bypass, NH-152, Ismailabad bypass, and then through villages Thol, Kurdi, Nalvi, and Shahabad.

The traffic coming from Kaithal district, destined to reach Saharanpur, Haridwar, Uttar Pradesh, Indri, Ladwa, and Yamunanagar district, can proceed via Pehowa to Dhand, Kaithal to Dhand, and then via Kaul village, Nigdhu, Nilokheri, and Indri, instead of going to Kurukshetra.

The traffic coming to Pehowa from Patiala and Punjab areas and going towards Karnal, Panipat, Sonepat and further to UP and Delhi via Kurukshetra can reach their destination via Pehowa, Dhand and Kaul.

As per the advisory, the traffic going to Pehowa and Punjab via Ladwa and Kurukshetra from Yamunanagar side can go via Ladwa, Babain, Shahabad, Nalvi, Thol and Ismailabad. The traffic going from Yamunanagar district to Kaithal and beyond can reach their destination via Ladwa, Indri, Bhadason and Nilokheri.

Kurukshetra Superintendent of Police Nitish Agarwal said, “For the convenience of the tourists, and devotees reaching Kurukshetra from across the country, and for the general public and ensure a smooth flow of traffic, a traffic diversion plan has been prepared for the IGM. Checkpoints have been set up on all roads leading to Kurukshetra city to manage the traffic.”

The SP appealed to the city residents not to drive towards Brahma Sarovar during the Gita Mahotsav unless there was an emergency and use alternative routes. Tourists attending the Gita Mahotsav have also been told to park their vehicles only in parking lots designated by the administration and not on the roads.
