Sirsa, March 4
Members of the Helen Keller Blind School Sangharsh Samiti staged a protest at the Mini-Secretariat today, alleging irregularities at the institute. They raised slogans against the chairman of the organisation and the district administration. Besides the school staff, students also participated in the protest. They demanded the removal of the chairman, reinstatement of the sacked staff and readmission of the ousted children.
Principal Rajesh Kumar of Helen Keller Blind School alleged that Ramta Soni was appointed the chairperson of the school in 2014-2015, which had led to a controversy at that time, resulting in her removal. He said the school was running smoothly till Soni was reinstated as the chairperson recently, due to which old issues resurfaced.
The Principal claimed that staff salaries were not being paid on time, children were being sent home without any reason and staff members who had been teaching for a long time were being dismissed after being tagged “incompetent”.
The samiti demanded that the school should be brought back under the district administration and chairperson Soni should be removed.
Bhagirath, father of a student, said exams were approaching and children were being expelled from the school, which was unfair.
However, school chairman Ramta Soni countered the allegations. She alleged that a teacher, Pawan, who was dismissed, was involved in thefts at the school. She said the decision to dismiss anyone was made by a committee, not just her. She said the accusations were baseless.
