Farmers have raised concerns over the ongoing crisis related to the non-availability and black marketing of DAP fertiliser, which is required for the sowing of kharif crops.
The Pagri Sambhal Jatta Kishan Sangharsh Samiti said the farmers had raised the issue with the state government, and also submitted a memorandum to Agriculture Minister Shyam Singh Rana, but despite repeated attempts, they were unable to procure DAP from cooperative societies.
The farmers claimed that the crisis was worsening as DAP was reportedly being sold on the black market.
In the letter submitted to the government, they alleged that they were being denied the fertiliser through official channels as some private agents and middlemen were selling it on higher rates. Demanding immediate intervention by the government to ensure fair and adequate distribution of DAP, they called for restriction on the unauthorised movement of the fertiliser out of the district.
They have also opposed the condition of purchasing other products like nano-DAP, DAP plus, or urea with a bag of DAP, which they claimed was being forced upon them by some dealers. The farmers urged the government to ensure easy access of fertilisers to the needy farmers without unnecessary formalities or restrictions.
Surender Arya, an activist of the samiti, said they had demanded the formation of a special inquiry committee to investigate the allegations and take strict action against those involved in the black marketing of fertilisers.
