A contractual employee of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) died after the dilapidated canopy collapsed during the repair work at the main gate of the Ramdhan Seed Farm building today.
The deceased has been identified as Jagvinder (50), originally from Shikarpur and currently residing in Chandan Nagar. He was employed in the university under Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN).
The incident occurred around noon when the repair work was underway on the building’s canopy. While masons were carrying out repairs, Jagvinder was standing nearby. Suddenly, the canopy collapsed, injuring him seriously. He was rushed to a private hospital in Hisar, where he died during treatment.
The family of the deceased said they informed the police about the incident. The Civil Lines police are investigating the matter and have recorded the family’s statements.
The HAU administration said they had received a complaint from Ramdhan Singh Seed Farm about the poor condition of the canopy. Taking cognisance, the department sent Jagvinder and a mason on August 11 to demolish the structure. The accident occurred during this process.
