The award was jointly presented by the Society for Community Mobilisation for Sustainable Development and the National Horticulture Board (NHB), Government of India, during the 12th National Seminar held at the College of Agriculture, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.
The accolade recognises Prof Kamboj’s outstanding contributions to agricultural research, education and extension services. He was appointed Vice-Chancellor on April 16, 2021, and was recently reappointed for a second term.
Throughout his tenure, Prof Kamboj has led numerous initiatives promoting sustainable agricultural practices. He has also previously served as Registrar of HAU and held additional charge as Vice-Chancellor of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology.
Notably, the HAU was recently awarded an ‘A ’ grade by the National Accreditation Board of Agricultural Education (NAEB) under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). In the NIRF 2024 rankings by the Ministry of Education, CCSHAU was ranked third among agricultural universities and seventh overall in India.
According to a university spokesperson, HAU has developed 44 high-yielding crop varieties and established the Nutritive Grain Research Centre in Gokulpura (Bhiwani). In recent years, 12 students and 36 scientists have received international training. The university has also been granted 55 Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs), including nine patents.
HAU’s Agri Business Incubation Centre (ABIC) has supported 65 startups, generating a combined turnover of over Rs 20 crore and creating 1,600 self-employment opportunities.
