Municipal Corporation Hisar (MCH) Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said the renovation work had been planned at a total cost of Rs 9.7 crore, which is divided into two categories — Rs 7.25 crore for civil works and the remaining amount for electrical works.
The Commissioner said the project had to be completed in 12 months. “However, it is likely to be completed well before the deadline,” he added.
Though the park was under the purview of the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), local municipal corporation members took up the matter to renovate the park during a meeting, after which the ULB Minister assigned the task of redevelopment to the MCH.
They have planned a major revamp of the park, and it will now have an amphitheatre-cum-open air theatre, open gym, besides several new facilities.
Surender Narang, a resident, said it had been a long-pending demand of the locals to get the park renovated as it had been in a dilapidated condition for long.
“It is a hub of morning walkers. Thousands of residents visit the park daily in the mornings and evenings but the park’s condition is becoming worse. The visitors have taken up the issue with the local authorities several times and even invited the ULB Minister to the park to take stock of the situation,” he said.
The park was developed during the INLD government and then Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, had inaugurated the park.
“The park is centrally located in the town. It was a centre of attraction, with fountains and walking tracks. But there was no provision for its regular maintenance, which resulted in its deterioration,” he said.
The MC officials said the park would be redeveloped based on a special theme of ‘panchbhoots’, which refers to the five elements of ‘jal’, ‘prithvi’, ‘agni’, ‘vayu’ and ‘aakash’.
