Haryana’s Minister for Industry and Commerce, Environment, Forest and Wildlife, Rao Narbir Singh, has hailed the state’s recently presented budget as “historic,” promising major advancements for Gurugram’s infrastructure. Addressing mediapersons, Narbir said the state government was fully aware of Gurugram’s importance and had taken steps to resolve the city’s infrastructure challenges.

“I’ve been in politics for 38 years and I can confidently say that no budget in Haryana’s history has been more dynamic. Most notably, Gurugram has received the attention it deserves,” Narbir said. Reflecting on the state’s budgetary progress, he noted when Haryana was formed in 1966, the budget stood at Rs 650 crore. Today, it has risen to a record Rs 2.5 lakh crore, marking a massive increase in funding for public welfare over the past decade.

Elaborating on the plans to improve the city’s infrastructure, Narbir highlighted efforts to tackle Gurugram’s notorious waterlogging problems. “Narsinghpur is a major concern and we are working on a permanent solution. The drainage system along the Dwarka Expressway is being revamped, with Rs 2,000 crore allocated for a covered pipeline from Kakroi in Sonipat to Gurugram. This project will not only eliminate water leakage but also ensure better water quality,” he explained.

The minister also praised the budget for its focus on enhancing road connectivity across the city. “We are set to build an elevated road from Gurugram-Jaipur National Highway to Vatika Chowk, along with four flyovers between Vatika Chowk and Ghata, at an estimated cost of Rs 850 crore. Efforts are also underway to resolve traffic congestion in Dhankot village on the Gurugram-Jhajjar road and explore a bypass for Badhsa AIIMS from the Dwarka Expressway. Land acquisition for a bypass at Chandu village will begin soon,” he said.

On environmental initiatives, Narbir noted the Forest and Wildlife Department had submitted a proposal to the Central Zoo Authority and the Supreme Court for a world-class jungle safari in Gurugram, which would proceed once approved. Additionally, an Environment Training Centre would be established at IMT Manesar to strengthen pollution control efforts.

Narbir stated all ongoing road renovation projects in Gurugram are preceded by de-silting work on the drains. He emphasised any development work must receive approval from the Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) concerned before contractors are paid.

The minister expressed confidence that work on the Gurugram Metro expansion would commence on May 1, ensuring minimal disruption to the public during construction. He said he had inspected the proposed route with officials from GMDA and Metro to ensure proper coordination.

With these sweeping improvements planned, Narbir believes the budget would lead to a brighter future for Gurugram, addressing its long-standing challenges and boosting its status as a leading city in Haryana.
