Members of the Maharshi Dayanand University Teachers Association (MDUTA) have demanded that the elections of the association, which are long overdue, be conducted at the earliest.
In a representation submitted to the State and District Registrars of Firms and Societies, the MDUTA members have maintained that the elections of the association were overdue and its executive committee was continuing unlawfully beyond its prescribed tenure.
“The current executive committee was constituted on November 30, 2023, for a period of one year. Accordingly, its term expired on November 30, 2024. As per the registered bylaws of the society (association), elections must be conducted every year. However, elections have not been conducted despite the lapse of more than 10 months beyond the expiry of the term,” the members pointed out.
The representation states that the continuation of the current executive committee beyond its legally mandated term without conducting elections is in clear violation of the rules governing the society. This amounts to illegal and arbitrary usurpation of office. We, therefore, request your esteemed office to declare the present executive committee of MDUTA as having ceased to hold office upon expiry of its term and to issue necessary directions for the conduct of fresh elections under your supervision.
A copy of the representation, signed by 156 members of MDUTA, has also been submitted to the MDU Vice-Chancellor and Registrar, seeking their intervention and necessary action in this regard.
