Home guard, SPO terminated in death in lockup case in Rewari

Superintendent of Police (SP) Hemendra Kumar Meena has taken strict disciplinary action against police personnel following the death of a murder accused in the lockup of Model Town police station last week.

“The services of SPO Satish Kumar and Home Guard Suresh have been terminated, Constable Ved Prakash at Model Town police station has been suspended, and a departmental inquiry has been ordered against investigating officer Sub-Inspector Rajesh. The decision was based on the findings of a preliminary investigation involving the four personnel,” said a district police spokesperson.

The police had arrested Vinod of UP and Sunny in connection with the murder of Rakesh of Jaunpur village. The crime was perpetrated on September 3. All three used to live in the same room and had a dispute over vacating the premises. After the argument, they drank alcohol together, following which Vinod and Sunny allegedly murdered Rakesh.

“After the arrest, the police took both accused on remand. At night, they were lodged in the lockup of the Model Town police station. During this time, Vinod covered himself with a bedsheet and quietly tore apart the blanket he was lying on. Taking advantage of the opportunity, he tied the strip to the iron mesh inside the lockup and died by suicide. Sunny was also sleeping on the same lockup but failed to notice the movement,” said a police official.
