Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sandeep, posted in the Cyber Cell of Rohtak Police, was widely regarded for his sincerity and integrity — both within his family and in the department.

Sandeep was felicitated by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini at the state-level Independence Day function in Rohtak this year for his exemplary conduct and performance.

“He was an honest and hard-working official. He was a member of our family and his death is tragic,” said Rohtak SP Surinder Singh Bhoria.

A native of Julana town in Jind district, Sandeep had been living in Rohtak with his family. His father, Dayanand, also served in the police as an inspector and later died in an accident. Sandeep is survived by his mother, wife and three children.

“He was upset for the past few days and seemed visibly disturbed when I met him today. We will not cremate his body until an FIR is registered against those responsible for his suicide,” said his cousin Sanjay.

In his suicide note and video, Sandeep mentioned that his grandfather served in the Army, saying that patriotism ran in his blood. “Patriotism is in my blood and Bhagat Singh is my ideal. Nothing is above the country and society,” he stated.

According to another cousin, Shishpal, Sandeep joined the police inspired by his grandfather’s service. “Sandeep was the only brother of five sisters and father of three children. His wife, Santosh, belongs to Singhwa Madanheri village. His eldest daughter is preparing for NEET, while the younger daughter and son are still in school,” he said.

Describing him as a dedicated officer and social worker, Shishpal recalled Sandeep’s active involvement in public welfare. “He used to be the president of a youth club and participated in blood donation camps and plantation drives,” he said.

The family has refused to perform the last rites until action is taken. “A thorough probe should be conducted into the property and other assets accumulated by Sandeep as well as the corrupt officers he named in his note and video. Bulldozers should be sent to raze the property built by corruption by whosoever it may be. We will not stand by Sandeep if he is found to have amassed assets through corrupt means,” Shishpal said.
