Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda today demanded that the Haryana Government convene a special session of the Assembly at the earliest to discuss the Chandigarh issue. Addressing a press conference in Gurugram, Hooda said, “It is clear that the BJP Government has completely failed to protect Haryana’s rights regarding Chandigarh and the SYL. This government is unable to acquire land for the new Assembly or provide Haryana with the SYL water. Despite clear Supreme Court orders, the BJP has failed to secure Haryana’s rightful share of water.”

He accused the ruling party of adopting an “indecisive” policy on Chandigarh, adding that even the Centre had not clarified whether Chandigarh would remain a shared capital or become a full-fledged Union Territory. Hooda said these matters should be debated in the House.

The senior Congress leader also targeted the government over the recent deaths of two basketball players. “The BJP government has completely ruined Haryana’s sports infrastructure. The dilapidated condition of stadiums led to the death of two promising players,” he alleged.

Hooda said preparations were under way for the Congress rally in Delhi, reiterating charges of vote rigging. He questioned the rising turnout figures released by the Election Commission, asking, “Will the Election Commission answer how the vote counts were increasing automatically for three consecutive days?”
