Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda has accused the BJP government of repeatedly insulting the Indian Constitution and its architect, Dr BR Ambedkar. Addressing the media here today, Hooda asserted that the nation would not tolerate such disrespect.

“Under the leadership of Dr Ambedkar, Congress leaders crafted this Constitution and dedicated it to the nation. Therefore, the Congress will never tolerate any attack on their honour. We will raise our voice from Parliament to the streets against this bad intention of the BJP,” Hooda said. He added that the Congress has resolved to organise protests nationwide to expose the BJP’s alleged “anti-Constitution and anti-Ambedkar face.”

Responding to a question, Hooda said, “Apart from being a citizen of the country, I too have a personal and family attachment to the Constitution. It is a matter of pride for me that along with Baba Saheb Ambedkar, my father, Ranbir Singh Hooda also signed the Constitution.”

Earlier in the day, Hooda led the Baba Saheb Ambedkar Samman March, organised by Congress leaders and workers in protest against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent remarks on Dr Ambedkar. Prominent Congress MLAs Bharat Bhushan Batra (Rohtak), Shakuntala Khatak (Kalanaur) and Balram Singh Dangi (Meham) participated in the demonstration.

The march began at the Congress office at Ambedkar Chowk and culminated at the Mini-Secretariat. Protesters carried pictures of Dr Ambedkar and submitted a memorandum addressed to the President to the district authorities.
