Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has criticised the BJP government for leading Haryana’s youth into unemployment, crime, drug abuse and migration. He claimed that highly qualified youth in the state are being forced to apply for menial jobs like peons and chowkidars due to the lack of opportunities.

Hooda highlighted a recent recruitment drive in Sirsa Court, where 5,700 candidates applied for just 13 posts of peon and chowkidar, roles requiring only an 8th-grade qualification. “It is shocking that graduates and postgraduates, including those with BA, BTech, BCom, B Pharmacy, BCA, MA, MBA, MSc, MCom, MCA and MPhil degrees, are applying for such positions. This shows the extent of unemployment in Haryana,” he said.

He contrasted the situation with the Congress era, claiming the state once offered the highest employment opportunities in the country. “The BJP has turned Haryana into the number one state in unemployment. Due to joblessness, highly qualified youth are now ready to work as sweepers, peons and watchmen in private companies, courts and under the Kaushal Rojgar Nigam. For example, 39,990 graduates and 6,112 postgraduates applied for the position of sweeper in Kaushal Nigam,” he said.

Hooda added that a staggering 1.17 lakh 12th-pass candidates also applied for the same menial job, bringing the total to 3.95 lakh applicants. “In Panipat, 10,000 youth, including BA, MA, MPhil, PhD, BTech and MTech degree holders, applied for just six peon positions in the district court. Similarly, 18 lakh unemployed youth applied for 18,000 Group-D vacancies by HSSC and 25 lakh candidates competed for 6,000 clerk posts,” he said.

Criticising the BJP, Hooda said the youth of Haryana are now leaving the state or migrating abroad in search of livelihood. “During the Congress government, coaching centres for government job preparation flourished in every locality. Today, immigration offices are popping up everywhere,” he said.

Hooda also linked the unemployment crisis to the rise in drug abuse and crime. “The BJP government is watching the destruction of Haryana as a mute spectator. Unemployed youth are falling into the trap of drug addiction and crime and the situation is spiralling out of control,” he added.
