Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Monday accused the state government of abandoning farmers at a time of acute distress. He said large tracts of agricultural land across several villages remained waterlogged for weeks, leaving farmers unable to sow the wheat crop while the government “continues to remain asleep at the wheel”.
“The state government has completely failed not only to drain out the accumulated water but also to provide farmers with adequate compensation. Farmers are struggling to get DAP fertiliser and are not receiving MSP for their crops. Instead of addressing farmers’ issues, the government is indulging in scams, with the paddy procurement scam being the latest example,” Hooda told mediapersons.
Hooda also congratulated Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant, saying, “We and the entire state are proud of him,” and expressed happiness that a judge from Haryana had reached the highest judicial position.
On the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state, Hooda said Congress workers and Booth Level Agents would remain vigilant to curb any irregularities. “The public has understood the BJP's mentality and election rigging and is now openly raising their voice against it,” he stated.
The former CM raised concerns over deteriorating law and order. “Since the BJP came to power, law and order has collapsed. The India Justice Report has exposed the government's shortcomings. This government is so negligent about law and order that thousands of police positions remain vacant,” he claimed.
He added that the burden on existing police personnel had increased significantly, leaving the public to suffer the consequences of the administrative failure.
