Hooda urges govt to address farmers' issues promptly
Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has urged the government to take cognisance of the farmers' issues and find a resolution promptly. He stated that the demands of the agitating farmers are completely justified and deserve immediate attention.
“According to the Swaminathan report, Congress favours minimum support price (MSP) and MSP guarantee under the C2 formula. This was mentioned in the party's election manifesto and has also been recommended in the party's national convention. Farming can be made profitable only by giving a fair price to the crops,” Hooda said.
Speaking at his residence, Hooda criticised the BJP for failing to deliver on its promises to farmers. “The demand for MSP is not new; it is many years old. BJP itself ended the farmers' movement by promising MSP, but now the farmers are reminding the government of its commitments. The BJP had promised to double farmers’ income, but instead of doing so, it has increased the input cost of farming manifold,” he said.
Hooda also expressed concern over the treatment of farmers heading to Delhi to protest. “Following the government’s instructions, the farmers have agreed to go to Delhi without tractor-trailers, but they are still being stopped, which is completely undemocratic. In a democracy, everyone has the right to move freely and express their views peacefully,” he added.
Hooda reiterated that the government must act swiftly to resolve the farmers' grievances and fulfil its promises.
