The Vidhan Sabha Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes (BCs) has put the office of the Advocate General (AG) and state government on notice on the issue of quota for SCs and BCs in the recruitment of 90 law officers.
Taking serious note of lack of requisite quota for reserved categories in the advertisement published for recruitment of 90 law officers — 30 posts each of Additional Advocate General, Deputy Advocate General and Assistant Advocate General — the committee today asked the AG and Additional Chief Secretary, Administration of Justice Department, to file their replies to the committee within a fortnight.
Sources said the matter of publishing the advertisement without mentioning the requisite quota for reserved categories was raised during a meeting of the committee today, following which it was decided to seek the response of the AG and state government.
Guhla Cheeka MLA and committee chairman Ishwar Singh said, “The advertisement for recruitment of 90 law officers without mentioning quota for reserved categories as per the reservation policy of the state government virtually amounts to infringing the constitutional rights of SCs and BCs.”
