Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW) chairperson Renu Bhatia on Tuesday urged police officials to investigate cases of women harassment with sincerity, ensuring that culprits are brought to justice.

Speaking to the media after hearing eight women-related cases at the Karnal Police Lines, Bhatia directed officials to prioritise such complaints, behave respectfully with women complainants and take strict action against offenders.

“Most complaints brought to the Commission involve live-in relationships, extramarital affairs, cybercrime, domestic violence and sexual harassment. Many domestic violence cases stem from a lack of mutual understanding and tolerance in today’s times,” Bhatia explained.

She emphasised the Commission's efforts to deliver justice to women, noting that resolutions are often achieved by bringing both parties face-to-face for in-depth investigations. “We ensure that no woman is treated unfairly and no family is broken unnecessarily,” she said, adding that the HSCW has resolved around 900 cases to date.

Bhatia also revealed that some complaints turned out to be false, and the Commission has taken appropriate action against those filing baseless cases.

The HSCW is conducting counselling sessions for students at coaching centres, schools, colleges and universities across Haryana to address these issues.

DSPs Rajiv Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Sonu Narwal and SHOs of police stations concerned were present during the public hearing.
