As per information, a general house meeting was called by the HSGMC to pass the annual budget of over Rs 100 crore on Wednesday. However, after finding lack of clarity in the budget proposals under expenses and income categories, the budget was not passed and the committee ended the eight-hour-long meeting with formation of a sub-committee to prepare a fresh one. The HSGMC has a budget of Rs 104 crore, and it will be the first one after the election of the Haryana committee.

HSGMC chief Jagdish Singh Jhinda said, “The general house meeting was called to discuss the budget of Rs 104 crore of the HSGMC on Wednesday. After the budget was presented, we started discussing it, and all members were asked to express their views. During the discussion, it was found that there were several issues with the budget and it lacked clarity regarding the expenses to be made and source of income.”

“There should have been complete details about the expenses on langar, transportation, religious preaching and other expenses. It appears that the people who have prepared the budget tried to mislead the committee and hide the previous scams. This decision has been taken with the aim of making the budget transparent. During the meeting, all 49 members unanimously decided that a nine-member sub-committee should be constituted to prepare a fresh budget. Directions have been given to prepare it in 15 days,” he added.

The HSGMC chief further said that it had also been decided that the chief auditors of the SGPC and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) would also be roped in to prepare the budget of the HSGMC.

“Along with the seven members of HSGMC, two chief auditors of the SGPC and the DSGMC will work together to prepare the budget. It was also decided that the audit of the HSGMC since 2014 will also be conducted. All managers of the gurdwaras have also been directed to put the monthly expenditure on a board in each gurdwara so that all information can be shared with the sangat,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dharma Prachar Committee chairman Baljit Singh Daduwal said that the HSGMC had objected to a Haryana government advertisement referring to Sikh warrior Banda Singh Bahadur as Veer Banda Bairagi, and asked it to rectify the mistake.

Meanwhile, the HSGMC also observed ‘black day’ to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Emergency. The programme was organised by the committee to honour the individuals and their family members who were imprisoned during the Emergency. Several senior Sikh community leaders attended the event.
