The General House of Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) has strongly opposed the proposed amendments to the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Act, 2014, recently approved by the Haryana Cabinet. In a meeting held at the committee’s headquarters in Kurukshetra, attended by 32 members, a resolution was unanimously passed rejecting the proposed changes. HSGMC president Jagdish Singh Jhinda said that the executive body of 11 members was not consulted prior to the Cabinet’s decision, which is unacceptable.

“We do not accept these amendments made without our consent. Future changes must involve our participation,” he said. One key objection is to the amendment of Section 17(2)(c), which shifts the power to remove members from the committee’s General House to Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission. Jhinda said that they have sought a meeting with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and plan to convene a Sikh Sammelan before the Assembly session for community feedback.
