Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) organised the 21st 'Basant Utsav' at Atal Park on Sunday, transforming the park into a floral paradise, with vibrant blooms enhancing its beauty.
Colourful flowers adorned the park, attracting visitors. Besides the flower displays, the event also showcased art and culture, with children participating enthusiastically in painting, rangoli and mehendi competitions.
Winners of these competitions were felicitated for their creativity and talent.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Yash Jaluka inaugurated the event by cutting a ribbon and releasing balloons into the sky.
Speaking on the occasion, Jaluka said 'Basant Utsav' was a festival of colours, celebrated across the country under different names.
He highlighted its deep connection with nature and the environment, stating that the festival symbolised renewal and joy.
“Not only humans but birds also rejoice in the beauty of nature during this season. The festival also has religious significance, as it is associated with the worship of Goddess Saraswati in various parts of the country, linking it with wisdom and knowledge,” he said.
The ADC urged people to plant more trees and protect the environment to preserve the beauty of nature.
Adding to the festive spirit, traditional cultural performances attracted people.
Performers, dressed as langurs, Ravana and other characters, entertained children, who eagerly took selfies with them.
A major highlight of the festival was the mesmerising performance by Punjabi singer Shaminder Shammi.
A flower show was also organised at the event, which featured a wide variety of flowers.
