THE Faridabad District Administration has completely failed to curb the illegal construction and mining going on in the preserved forest area of the Aravallis. Mining mafia has become ultra active in the Surajkund belt despite the recent demolition of the illegal residential colony of Kant Enclave a few months back on the orders of the Supreme Court. While the illegal construction and mining in the hills had been going on unchecked with the patronage of local politicians, police and officials of the Forest Department, any complaint in this regard goes unheard as they find no such activity due to their vested interests and alleged indirect involvement. The officials and district machinery have no fear of any authority, including the Supreme Court, as the implementing agencies are based locally and their connections with the land mafia had been too strong to recognise the violations and action required to check the damage to the Aravallis. Spiritual awakening need of hour

SPIRITUAL bankruptcy and commercialisation are the two major causes of the deteriorating standards in higher education and calls for enthusiasm to say no to the crimes of all kinds, including terrorism and corruption in India. The provisions in the new Education Policy-2019 are necessary but not sufficient for the new India vision. To make it sufficient, we need an ecosystem with real education as proper, productive and practical use of hands, head and heart. Inclusive education in India as independent, non-violent, democracy with integrity and amity calls for converting careless to careful and useless to useful. The youth need to be alert, aware and awake of the people with negative mindset and use logic and rationale to be an argumentative Indian with full sense of responsibility. Prof MM Goel, Kurukshetra

No end to VIP culture

On Wednesday, there was a lot of rush on the Himalayan Expressway on the Kalka-Shimla highway. When I was crossing the area, I saw some persons travelling in a car with the “Government of Haryana” tag on the registration plate using the emergency lane. When the toll authorities were asked about the same, they said officers from different government departments of Haryana were travelling in the car and they couldn’t argue with them or they’ll get in trouble. I wish that one day, this VIP culture will end. Pankaj Kamboj, DLF, Pinjore
