The district administration has intensified its crackdown on illegal mining and unauthorised transportation of minerals. Over the past three days, joint teams from the Mining Department, supported by the police and other relevant departments, have conducted surprise inspections across the district.

Rajesh Kumar, District Mining Engineer, claimed a total of 300 vehicles were checked during the ongoing campaign. “Out of these, four vehicles were found involved in the illegal transportation of minerals such as sand, gravel and soil and were fined a total of Rs 12.60 lakh. In a previous drive, fines amounting to Rs 7.34 lakh were levied on two vehicles and deposited into the government treasury,” he added.

Kumar highlighted that the Mining Department had adopted a zero-tolerance policy against illegal mining and the DC was conducting regular review meetings to ensure strict implementation of the anti-mining measures.

He further added that the mining teams were actively stationed on all critical routes and were conducting sudden inspections in the areas where illegal mining or mineral transportation was suspected. Special surveillance is being maintained in such hotspots, and strict action was being taken against the offenders.

He reaffirmed that the state government had made it clear that illegal mining would not be tolerated under any circumstances and those involved in it would face stringent legal consequences.
