Throwing their weight behind Independent candidate Sonia Bohat for the Assandh MC byelection chairperson’s post, Congress leaders campaigned for her in the town on Thursday and expressed confidence in her victory.

Former MLA Shamsher Singh Gogi, former MLA Bakshish Singh Virk along with all senior leaders of the party in the area conducted a door-to-door campaign in the market in her support, strengthening the poll campaign. She is contesting against BJP candidate Sunita Ardana. The door-to-door campaignig drew a large number of people with a significant number of women and the youth participating and strengthening the morale of party’s leaders.

Gogi claimed that Bohat would win by a huge margin. “Since, the Congress is not contesting Municipal Committee elections on symbol, we have extended support to Sonia Bohat and are working for her victory,” said Gogi.

Gogi emphasised that the Congress workers would put in their full efforts to secure victory. He said the party workers were assigned responsibilities at every booth and that the Congress was fully prepared for the election. Gogi accused the BJP of misleading the public with false promises and asserted that voters would not fall for their tactics this time.

Former MLA Bakshish Singh Virk expressed confidence that the residents of Assandh would vote in favour of Sonia Bohat, ensuring her victory. He urged the party workers to remain united and committed to securing a win for the Congress candidate.
