Charging the ruling BJP of failing to come up to the expectations of the people due to poor performance and promoting corruption, Udai Bhan, president of the HPCC, said here today that the Congress is set to stage a big victory in the civic body elections in the city and state.

Bhan, who had come in support of Congress mayoral candidate Lata Chandila at the time of filing nomination papers here on Monday, said that there had been no disunity or dissensions in the party despite the party not announcing its candidates from all the wards.

He alleged that the BJP did not go for civic elections in the past three years as it was scared of defeat due to corruption and the scam of Rs 200 crore that had rocked the state a few years ago.

He said while the scam had raised questions over the role of BJP leaders, the city had turned into hell in matters of civic infrastructure and cleanliness, despite spending several crores in the past 10 years.

Meanwhile, BJP mayoral candidate Praveen Batra Joshi also filed nomination in the presence of senior leaders, including the local MP and Union Minister of State Krishan Pal Gurjar, today. Vipul Goel and Rajesh Nagar, both ministers in Haryana, were also present.

Addressing the supporters, Gurjar said the BJP is set to have thumping win in all the 46 wards of the Municipal Corporation, besides the post of Mayor.

He said the party would stage the biggest victory on the post of Mayor and the Congress would be blanked out in the state as the people are in the mood to bring a triple engine government.

He claimed zero challenge from anyone to the BJP candidates. Praveen Joshi said that she would focus on all-round and comprehensive development of the city after getting elected.
