In four days, 33 FIRs registered for lane violations in Gurugram
The Gurugram traffic police, as part of their campaign ‘Lane Driving is Safe Driving,’ have registered 33 FIRs against drivers violating lane discipline over the past four days. This year alone, 58,903 challans amounting to over Rs 5.39 crore in fines have been issued to lane violators, along with 97 legal cases filed against them.
A special drive conducted by the Gurugram Traffic Police between December 12 and December 15 targeted violators of lane discipline. “During the campaign, 33 cases were registered under Section 285 of the BNS Act against drivers who disobeyed lane-driving rules,” said a senior traffic official.
The official highlighted that violations are most commonly observed on NH-48, Gurugram-Faridabad Road and Gurugram-Sohna Road. “Road markings are often made to separate lanes, but some drivers still disregard the rules. Lane discipline reduces accidents and ensures vehicles reach their destinations safely,” the official added.
In 2023, the Gurugram Traffic Police issued 58,903 challans to offenders, resulting in fines totaling Rs 5.396 crore.
DCP Traffic Virender Vij emphasised the importance of lane discipline for road safety. “Most accidents occur due to drivers not staying in their designated lanes or changing lanes abruptly, endangering their own lives and others. To prevent such accidents, awareness campaigns are conducted regularly, targeting truck drivers, company drivers and bus drivers.”
He said, “The aim of the Gurugram Traffic Police is to make the city’s roads safer. We appeal to all residents to adhere to lane discipline and traffic rules. Such enforcement campaigns will continue in the future.”
The police’s continued efforts aim to reinforce the importance of lane discipline as a crucial element of road safety in Gurugram.
