In Panipat, campaigning picks up, candidates get symbols
Campaigning for Mayor and councillors’ posts in the municipal poll is picking pace day by day in Panipat these days.
Braham Prakash, SDM and Returning Officer, said that on Saturday, out of total 127 nominations, two nomination forms were rejected. As many as 18 candidates have withdrawn their nominations.
Now, 107 candidates, including four candidates for the Mayor’s post and 103 for the councillors’ post are in the fray, the SDM said. Symbols were also allotted to the candidates on Saturday, he said. Polling in Panipat will be held on March 9.
The four candidates in fray for mayoral post are Komal Saini of BJP, Savita Garg of Congress, Pritpal Singh of AAP and an Independent Kewal Singh.
Panipat MC election in-charge and former minister Dr Banwari Lal, Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda, MLA Pramod Vij, Mayor candidate Komal Saini, former Mayor Avneet Kaur, councillor candidate from ward 26 Kusum Bhatt inaugurated the election office at Ram Swaroop Chowk and addressed a public gathering on Saturday.
Former minister Dr Banwari Lal said that there is a BJP wave in the state. But to make this win historical, all party workers have to work on the ground on a war-footing.
Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda said that the BJP has done balanced development in urban as well as in rural areas in all the states. He said that the BJP’s state government has approved 78 colonies in the city and also provided potable water and sewage connections to the people.
