He warned dhaba operators not to serve alcohol.

“If dhaba operators are found serving alcohol to anyone, strict action shall be taken against them,” Kumar said.

Police spokesperson Chamkaur Singh said those who drank and served alcohol in public places in the district would not be spared.

“Drinking and serving alcohol at public places is illegal. On the directions of Ambala Division Inspector General of Police Pankaj Nain and Yamunanagar Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal, a special team has been formed in Yamunanagar district in this regard,” Singh said.

The police had received information that some residents were drinking alcohol in public places, with altercations having been reported in some such cases, he added.

“Inebriated people sometimes end up committing huge crimes such as murder due to excessive intoxication. Now, there will be no mercy for those who fight or create a ruckus at public places after drinking alcohol,” Singh said.
