Yamunanagar, August 23

With the Assembly elections approaching, political leaders, including ticket aspirants, are not only ensuring a heavy crowd in their poll meetings, but also carrying out extensive public contact programmes in their Assembly segments. The motive of this exercise is to show themselves as an influential leader in their respective areas.

In the past 15 days, Congress leader Deepender Hooda took out padyatras in Yamunanagar, Radaur town and Jagadhri city of this district under the “Haryana Mange Hisaab” campaign. Despite the scorching heat and humidity, there was a larger crowd than expected in both functions.

These programmes were reportedly held by ticket aspirants of the Congress and they made all efforts to make those successful by ensuring huge gatherings. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also addressed a Non-Stop Haryana Jan Ashirwad Rally in Chhachhrauli town of the district.

This rally was held by Jagadhri MLA and Agriculture Minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar in his constituency. As per sources, Gujjar’s ticket is almost final from Jagadhri constituency and he gathered a huge crowd in the Chief Minister’s rally reportedly to create an election atmosphere. Several leaders, including Kanwar Pal Gujjar are also carrying out extensive public contact programmes to impress voters. Recently, the INLD-BSP alliance also held a rally in the new grain market Jagadhri which reportedly witnessed a huge gathering.

However, the programme was held not to seek a ticket, but to make a wave in favour of the alliance partners in the area. Former INLD MLA Dilbag Singh lost the Assembly election in 2019 only by a narrow margin of 1,455 votes from BJP’’s Ghanshyam Das Arora, but this time Dilbag Singh will try to ensure his victory with the help of alliance partner BSP, which has a good vote bank in the Yamunanagar assembly segment.

A political observer said huge crowds didn’t always translate into votes. The polling in the Assembly election will be held in Haryana on October 1.
